About the Guy Behind Nomad Compass
Who Am I?
If you have landed here, you have probably already seen my face on the homepage. Just in case you clicked past it at record speed, here is the short version. I am Thore, 29, German by birth and Irish by degree. I am curious, straightforward and laugh more loudly than necessary. I enjoy meeting people, exploring new cultures and saying yes to adventures before fully thinking them through. So far, that strategy has worked out surprisingly well.
WHAT IS MY STORY?
After finishing school, I moved to Newcastle upon Tyne to attend a language school. That is where everything started. New faces, new cultures, nights that lasted far too long and the realisation that the world is simply too interesting to stay in one place. Since then, I have lived, studied and travelled across several countries while completing university, internships and volunteering projects. The people I met along the way shaped how I see the world, challenged my assumptions and helped me figure out what really matters to me. Every new place left its mark and gave me another reason to keep exploring
WHAT MAKES NOMAD COMPASS DIFFERENT?
This is not a collection of perfect Instagram moments, polished travel guides or bucket-list checklists. Nomad Compass is a place for honest stories, real experiences and the lessons that come from living, working and travelling across different countries. At the beginning of each story, I share what brought me there and why the journey mattered. Along the way, I highlight local tips, hidden spots, restaurants and bars that are genuinely worth experiencing. Most importantly, I share the people, cultures and moments that changed the way I see the world. My goal is simple: to inspire curiosity, encourage exploration and show that some of the best experiences happen when things do not go according to plan.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
When I started this website, I had no clear direction. After countless drafts and almost two years of writing, the purpose has become much clearer. Here, you will find the stories behind each journey, practical tips, honest reflections and the lessons that come with living, working and travelling across different countries. More importantly, this website is about navigating life in a world full of opportunities, uncertainty and constant change. The good days, the tough days and everything in between.
WHAT AM I CURRENTLY DOING?
Right now, I am back in Asia and already thinking about where to go next. If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that the best stories rarely start with a detailed plan. So for now, I will keep exploring, keep saying yes to new experiences and trust that the next adventure will find me sooner or later.
